URGENT MESSAGE FROM THE FRIENDS OF KGV PRESCOT (BROWNS FIELD) & CARR LANE WOODS
SAVE BROWN’S FIELD
Recent proposals from our principal authority Knowsley Council have identified 17 public open spaces across Knowsley for sale to housing developers. Included in the list of 17 is our much loved and well used Brown’s Field aka King Gerorge V Memorial Playing Fields Prescot.
The Town Council with the support of local residents have responded to KMBC’s proposal highlighting what it believes to be short comings in the overall approach and particularly the site selection process, a summary of which can be seen here Summary of Town Council response to KMBC , full version here Knowsley Greenspace Trust – Response Feb 2018
In order to protect the future of our parks we need you to voice your opinion and contact the decision makers at Knowsley Council to let them know how you feel about the loss of a vital part of Prescot’s Green Space. In order to support your complaint a proforma letter highlighting the short comings identified above is provided below. You don’t have to use this letter and well may use it as a basis for your own complaint, but if you do use it it is very important that each letter is treated separately and in its own right. In order to facilitate this you must include your name and address at the top, thereby making each letter individual. Once you have completed your letter you can send it to andy.moorhead@knowsley.gov.uk or visit https://secured.knowsley.gov.uk/haveyoursayform and make your complaint there. The only way we will save our parks is by making KMBC aware of your opinion as a resident and elector.

Town Council Submits Response to KMBC’s Green Space Trust Proposal
The Town Council where shocked to hear in November that KMBC’s proposal to create a new Green Space Trust involved the sale of King George V Memorial Playing Fields Prescot (known locally as Brown’s Field). Since that time the Town Council have worked alongside local residents to help develop a new Friends of the park group (Friends of KGV Brown’s Field and Carr Lane Woods) who will campaign against it’s loss and work to enhance the site in the future. The football pitches which had been rested, are now being well used by Berkley Juniors FC who currently have 4 teams using the site, the club are launching a new academy for 4-6 year olds boys and girls training sessions on Saturday mornings 11-12 with the express interest of attracting new players from Prescot. These actions have been taken to ensure that we maximise the use of the site.
The Town Council have also approved the response to KMBC below which provides a number of alternative options to the sale of Brown’s Field.

Prescot Men 15 Blackpool 2
Prescot broke their own league goal scoring record by smashing fifteen past a sorry Blackpool. The goal festival started with Jobes, Mortimer and Boulton before Doyle and Lomax added to the rout. To be fair Blackpool have lost several players this season and tried to make a game of it. More goals from Johnson, Heaps, Boulton and Talbot condemned Blackpool to their heaviest ever defeat. The huge win has put Prescot top of the North West One scoring charts again but an indifferent start to 2018 means promotion this year might be out of reach.
South Manchester 4 Prescot 2nds 2
The Prescot twos were missing a few senior players and after conceding two early goals against Manchester it looked as though a heavy defeat was on the cards. However, Prescot settled into a good rhythm and forced the opposition keeper into several saves. Just on half time Hayes netted from a penalty corner to keep Prescot well in the game. South Manchester are a good top four side and scored from the restart and poured forward. The Prescot defence held firm for long periods and then Maher scored for Prescot from a well worked penalty corner. Prescot pushed on for an equaliser but conceded a fourth against the run if play in the final minute. With five Prescot players aged 14 playing for long periods against a senior team it was a fantastic result and the club has a thriving junior hockey section producing some real quality players.
Prescot – An award winning Town
Prescot was recently featured in the February edition of regional publication Lancashire Life & North West magazine. The article included among other things the origins of the town and the forthcoming developments of the new theatre and redevelopment of Market Place. It’s always nice to see the Town featured in such a positive light, a copy of the article is provided below.
