Prescot Railway Station set for face lift and accessibility improvements
Residents will soon be receiving a letter from Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council who are working in partnership with Northern Trains Limited, Seed Architects and Merseytravel and have successfully secured funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to make much needed access improvements to Prescot station to ensure that it is accessible to all. These improvements include refurbishment of the station ticket office and booking hall, provision of step free access to both platforms through the construction of passenger lifts, improvements to station platforms to enable step free access onto trains and improvements to the station forecourt and car park.
Unfortunately the improvement works will require closer of the car park for a period of time partially from Monday 14th and full closure from 28th September until Spring 2021.

Around 71 tonnes of waste taken at Community Skip Day
Staff and Councillors were overwhelmed by the huge take up of the community skip offer on Saturday morning. This pilot project was targeted in the southern area of the town with elected members delivered flyers through just over 1,800 letter boxes in the week leading up to Saturdays event. St Paul’s Church provided the Town Council Council with the use of its car park as safe location to position the skips away from the roadside.
The skips arrived at 8:30 am with Elected members of the Town Council and the Town Clerk on site to mange the event and help residents to sort their waste into recyclable and non recyclable items. Within minutes of the skips being dropped the first residents were arriving to use the service and a steady stream continued thereafter, this meant that it was only just over an hour before the six skips were completely full.
In addition to the six skips on site the Town Council also had a support team out collecting larger items that would be impossible for people to fit in car. In a very busy morning and early afternoon this team managed to collect enough items to fill another three skips from 15 address.
All in all the event was a great success with nine 8 tonne skips having been filled with unwanted items, the majority of which were sorted for recycling.
Huge thanks to those elected members who gave up their time to enable this project, along with Rev Taylor for the use of car park and Kirkby Skips for providing such a great service on the day.
Over 300 residents benefit from Town Council’s Food Bank Support
At a time when other organisations were still pulling together lists, Prescot Town Council were proud to be one of the first organisations out of the blocks supporting vulnerable and isolated residents through it’s Self Isolation Support Scheme a programme which launched on the first day of Lockdown. Initially enabled through a combination of donations, its own funds, grant funding and fantastic volunteer support the scheme was able help 56 residents in its first two weeks of operation. With the Town Hall closed to visitors a safe way of working was developed that enabled staff and elected members to make up packages for delivery, these were then collected ‘at a distance’ from the Town Hall and delivered to those in need.
As the impacts of Lockdown continued to mount a virtual meeting was quickly held where it was agreed to extend the scheme beyond Prescot to include Whiston with elected members of both Town Council’s volunteering to support by delivering packages. As demand increased the Town Council were are able to link in with The Big Help Project who were able to pass referrals on and more crucially provide the food that was required. Our dedicated team of staff and elected members have continued to provide a service to our residents up until the end of last week, when it became clear that with many people returning to work the demand for the service had reduced considerably and the additional resource provided by the Town Council staff and Elected Members was no longer needed.
We are very proud to say that since the 25th March we have been able support over 300 residents, 11 dogs and 4 cats. Well done to all those involved it’s actions like this that our Town a great place to live in.
We’ve been FOGGED!
